The Wilkins Wood-Tone Mute

The Wilkins Wood-Tone Mute - a nod to the solo-tone. The Wood-Tone is resonant and offers minimal resistance. Intonation is not perfect, but plays well and is great for soloists looking for that vintage sound.

 

 

 

 

 

The mute is named after one of my former band directors, Jay Wilkins, who actually gave me my first solo-tone mute. The Wood-Tone is made from segments of purpleheart, padauk, mahogany, sapele, walnut, and yellowheart.

 

 

Fits Bb trumpets. Weight is about 5 oz (150 g).
